Kverneland Plough Bodies explained, what’s the difference?

Kverneland ploughs are renowned worldwide for their excellent finishing quality, outstanding wear resistance and low draft requirements. With a range of plough models to choose from to suit different requirements, there is also a range of plough bodies designed for varying soil types and finishes.

Kverneland plough bodies are manufactured from a unique heat-treated steel, as they withstand the toughest of conditions and possess the best strength-to-weight ratio on the market. This is thanks to more than 140 years of experience in heat treatment technology. Kverneland wearing metal goes through a 12-hour carburising heat treatment process to ensure optimum wear resistance and an edge "as sharp as a diamond", as well as having the necessary flexibility to absorb impacts.

To achieve strength that is equivalent to Kverneland plough bodies, competitors would add more steel but would therefore increase weight, resulting in quicker wear and disappointing ploughing results.

Offering a range of plough bodies to cater to every need, here is a guide to help find the right body for your conditions:

Kverneland - Kverneland Plough Bodies explained, what’s the difference?

Body No. 28 –  Standard Fit “Wide tyre body”

The most popular in the range, specially designed for UK soil conditions. Body No. 28 is a general purpose body with low draft characteristics similar to Body No. 8. Its extended mouldboard provides a furrow bottom 25% wider than Body No. 8, making it ideal for tractors fitted with wide tyres. Twin mouldboard stays are fitted as standard giving additional support when working in heavy soils.

Depth: 12 to 30 cm (5 to 12”)

Width: 30 to 55 cm (12 to 22”)

Landside/Mouldboard Angle: 40°

Body No. 38 – “Universal body”

Universal body for medium to heavy soils.

In heavy soils, the soil is firmly packed with all stubble and weeds buried for a rapid residue breakdown. Featuring the same shape as Body 28, Body 38 is specifically designed for tractors with large tyres. Its longer design creates a wider, empty furrow to accommodate larger tyres while ensuring effective residue burial and excellent furrow-slice turnover, whether ploughing at deep or shallow working depths.

Depth: 12 to 40 cm (5 to 16")

Width: 30 to 55 cm (12 to 22")

Landside/Mouldboard Angle: 40°

Body No. 40 – “Finger body”

Finger body for sticky & abrasive soil.

Based on body No.38, it features a narrower saddle and a long, tall construction with replaceable individual slats for improved soil clearance, inversion and crumbling. Its narrow 40° landside/mouldboard angle provides excellent soil penetration and inversion while maintaining low pulling forces. The spacers between the slats are available in steel or plastic, with steel spacers recommended for flintier soils and more abrasive, hard-wearing conditions. Particularly suited to large tractors with wide tyres.

Depth: 12 to 40 cm (5 to 16”)

Width: 30 to 55 cm (12 to 22”)

Landside/Mouldboard Angle: 40°

Body No. 30 – “Finger body”

A deep finger body with replaceable individual slats. Its wide 45° landside/mouldboard angle provides greater body pressure to give improved cleaning properties when working in sticky soil types. The spacers between the slats are available in steel or plastic, with steel offering greater durability in flintier soils and more abrasive conditions. This body is designed to work from 8” to 14” deep, leaving a well-broken finish and wide furrow bottom for wide tractor tyres with a width of 12” to 22”.

Depth: 20 to 35 cm (8 to 14”)

Width: 30 to 55 cm (12 to 22”)

Landside/Mouldboard Angle: 45°

Body No. 8 – “Universal body”

A general-purpose low draft, high-speed body suited to both medium and light soils. This body is designed to work at varying depths 6” to 11” and widths 12” to 20” with good cleaning and soil inversion characteristics. This body was originally designed for operation for ploughs having the vari-width feature.

Depth: 15 to 28 cm (6 to 11”)

Width: 30 to 50 cm (12 to 20”)

Landside/Mouldboard Angle: 40°

Body No. 9 – “Deep Universal body”

Universal, low draft body deeper ploughing and excellent soil inversion.
Ideal in heavy soil where well turned and packed furrows are required.

Depth: 18 to 30 cm (7 to 12”)

Width: 30 to 50 cm (12 to 20”)

 Landside/Mouldboard Angle: 40°

Body No. 34 – “Plastic mouldboard”

For soils with high humus content without stones.
Long and slim mouldboard profile like the No. 28.
Best suited to tactors with large tyres, provides easy pulling.

Depth: 12 to 35cm (5 to 14")

Width: 30 to 55cm (12 to 22")

Landside/Mouldboard Angle: 40°
